On September 1, 1978, President Ziaur Rahman announced the formation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at Ramna Batamul in Dhaka. The party was established in response to the political changes following the introduction of a one-party system through the fourth amendment. According to its manifesto, the BNP upholds Bangladeshi nationalism and seeks to promote democracy, economic self-reliance, and collective progress, while opposing imperialism, expansionism, and neo-colonial influences.
