The Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reopened today (1 September) after a three-month closure aimed at protecting biodiversity.

The Forest Department announced that 2,970 pass permits have been renewed at four stations in the Sundarbans Satkhira range, allowing fishermen and forest dwellers to resume their activities. Tourist guides are also preparing to welcome visitors to the forest.

The closure, from June 1 to August 31, was implemented to provide a safe breeding environment for fish and wild animals, including the critically endangered Royal Bengal Tiger and spotted deer.
