Witnesses say he shouted, “I don’t care whether you are a journalist from Al Jazeera or anyone else, you cannot go.” Moments later, he went further, calling the reporters “terrorists” and accusing their activities of being “terrorist activities.” The district administration immediately withdrew him from duty following the incident. Press freedom advocates argue this shocking abuse of journalists is a dangerous precedent in Bangladesh.
