Tawhid Afridi Placed on 5-Day Remand in Murder Case

Tawhid Afridi Placed on 5-Day Remand in Murder Case

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand for content creator Tawhid Afridi in connection with the murder case of Asadul Haque Babu, which stems from the anti-discrimination movement.
On Monday (August 25), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque approved the remand order. Afridi was brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court in Dhaka at 2:25 p.m. and held in the court’s lockup before being produced in the courtroom.
During the hearing, CID Inspector Khan Md. Erfan, the investigation officer in the case, sought a seven-day remand for Afridi. The prosecution also pressed for the maximum remand period, while the defense counsel requested cancellation of the remand and sought bail. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted five days of remand.
Afridi was arrested by a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Barishal late Sunday night and subsequently brought to Dhaka. Earlier, on August 17, his father Nasir Uddin was arrested from the capital’s Gulshan area in the same case and placed on a five-day remand the following day.
