Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has once again reiterated his earlier position regarding Bangladesh’s political transition. He assured both the nation and the international community that the 13th National Parliamentary Election will be held in February next year, as pledged. He also made it clear that he will not take part in the government formed after the polls—neither in an elected nor in an appointed role.
Earlier, during foreign visits, Dr. Yunus had repeatedly emphasized that Bangladesh’s interim administration would swiftly hand over responsibility to an elected government following a free and fair election.
On Thursday (21 August), U.S.-based news outlet Deseret News, headquartered in Utah, published an article written by Dr. Yunus. In it, he outlined the government’s future roadmap, including the upcoming national election, the July uprising, and ongoing reforms.
“Our primary mission is to organize a free, fair, and peaceful election, where political parties can present their visions to the people,” Dr. Yunus wrote. “Every eligible voter, including those living abroad, must be able to cast their vote. This is a massive undertaking, but we are committed to making it happen.”
He added, “I have made it very clear: the national election will be held in February. After that, I will not remain in any position—neither elected nor appointed—in the government that follows.”
