Chittagong University (CU) has recently launched an eco-friendly electric car (e-car) service on its campus to ease the commute of students and promot...

Chittagong University (CU) has recently launched an eco-friendly electric car (e-car) service on its campus to ease the commute of students and promote sustainable transportation. The e-car service was introduced on a trial basis starting in May 2025, with four e-cars initially operating across the campus for a two-day trial period. If successful, the university plans to officially launch the service with 20 e-cars from June 2025.

The e-cars were brought in from an institution in Dhaka, and the university administration is seeking feedback from students, teachers, and employees during the trial run to assess the service's effectiveness and acceptability. The goal of the initiative is to reduce environmental pollution and make internal transportation on campus more comfortable and convenient.

During the trial, the e-car rides were free for students, and it is expected that fares will range from Tk5 to Tk15 depending on the distance traveled within the campus. This new service is part of CU's efforts to moder
