The government of Bangladesh has received approval from Ecnec to build 201 mini stadiums at the upazila level across 58 districts under the revised project “Construction of Mini Stadiums at Upazila Level (Phase II)” with a budget of Tk2855.42 crore. The project, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and implemented by the National Sports Council, aims to improve sports infrastructure for grassroots training and competitions. It involves land acquisition, pavilion construction, boundary walls, and field development, with adjustments made due to increased costs and project extension to June 2027. By May 2025, the project achieved over 45% financial progress and 54% physical progress. This second phase follows phase one, which completed 125 stadiums by June 2019. The initiative, originally named after Sheikh Russel, aims to promote sports development across every upazila in Bangladesh.
