Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Md. Nasir Uddin, chairman of the private television channel My TV, in connection with a murder case filed amidst the ongoing anti-discrimination protests.

According to police sources, Nasir Uddin was detained on Sunday evening (August 17) from the Gulshan area of Dhaka. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Media and Public Relations Division confirmed the arrest in a statement issued around 8 p.m.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman, spokesperson for the DMP Media and Public Relations Division, said a team of DB officers conducted the operation. He stated, “Md. Nasir Uddin has been arrested in connection with a murder case filed during the anti-discrimination movement at Jatrabari Police Station. He has been brought to the Detective Branch office.”

The case against Nasir Uddin pertains to alleged involvement in a killing that occurred during demonstrations sparked by the anti-discrimination movement. However, authorities have yet to reveal detailed information about the specific charges or his role in the incident.

The anti-discrimination movement has triggered widespread protests across Dhaka and other regions, resulting in clashes and several violent incidents. Law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities related to the unrest.

DCP Talebur Rahman further confirmed that legal proceedings are now underway against Nasir Uddin, but no additional information on the progress of the investigation or upcoming court appearances has been released.
