Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists from 44 countries, including climate activist Greta Thunberg and Portuguese lawmaker Mariana Mortágua, are preparing to launch the Global Sumud Flotilla on Sunday. The civilian convoy, carrying humanitarian aid, will depart from several Spanish ports and head toward Gaza in an attempt to break Israel’s 15-year naval blockade.

The flotilla is expected to be the largest of its kind, involving dozens of vessels and hundreds of participants. Organizers, including Palestinian activist Saif Abukeshek, have urged governments to ensure safe passage for the mission.

This comes after previous attempts to breach the blockade, including a June mission intercepted by Israeli forces while carrying aid and Thunberg herself. The upcoming effort aims not only to deliver essential supplies but also to draw global attention to Gaza’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
