Fifteen factories have been announced closed in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka after workers’ protests demanding salary arrears.
The workers of ‘Nassa Basics Ltd’, a concern of Nassa Group, staged demonstration in front of the factory on Thursday morning, August 14, and blocked the Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road for half an hour.
Following the protests, the authorities concerned announced 15 factories to the adjacent area shut citing security reasons.
Later, the law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Workers alleged that the Nassa Group authorities announced leave from August 10 to 13 at its factories without paying arrears.
The authorities did not pay arrears today despite giving promise, rather, announced closure of the factories for four more days, they said.
