The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for allegedly accumulating wealth far beyond his known income sources. During his tenure as ICT adviser, Joy reportedly acquired assets worth Tk60.14 crore through dishonest means. Investigations found he owns immovable assets valued at Tk54.39 crore and movable assets of Tk6.78 crore, while his declared income was only Tk1.32 crore.
He is accused of laundering money, including via hundi, to purchase two houses in the U.S. worth Tk54.04 crore, without declaring these funds in Bangladesh's tax records. Suspicious transactions totaling Tk57.50 crore were also conducted through his bank accounts, violating the ACC and Money Laundering Prevention Acts.
