Islamic Movement Bangladesh chief and Charmonai Pir, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, has claimed that following the events of August 5, Islamic scholars, including his party activists, took to the streets to protect the lives and property of minority communities.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Faridpur district unit of the National Olama Mashayekh Alima Council at Goalachamot Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday (13 August) afternoon, the Charmonai Pir alleged that a vested group used the situation for extortion and tender manipulation.

He further said that Islamic Movement Bangladesh, in consultation with senior Islamic scholars, is working to field a unified ballot box in favour of Islam in the upcoming elections. “We are getting good responses. Seeing this, those with fascist tendencies and extortionists cannot tolerate it. That is why they are now targeting Charmonai, the Islamic scholars, and especially the student leaders who played a key role in the August 5 uprising,” he added.
