A private car driver was brutally murdered by unidentified assailants late Thursday night near Gopalpur Mills High School on the Gopalpur-Lalpur road. The incident occurred around 10:00 PM.
The deceased has been identified as Saidur Rahman, 35, a resident of Bamangram village in the Bheramara Railgate area of Kushtia district.
According to local sources and police reports, Saidur was driving from Bheramara to Bonpara when the attackers intercepted the vehicle near the Gopalpur Railgate. The assailants launched a violent attack inside the car, stabbing him multiple times and slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. Despite his critical injuries, Saidur managed to exit the vehicle but collapsed and died on the roadside due to severe bleeding.
Hearing the screams of a co-passenger, locals rushed to the scene and found the lifeless body beside the road. Police soon arrived, recovered the body, and launched an investigation. The identity of the victim was confirmed through documents found on him.
Md. Ifte Khair Alam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance), Natore, confirmed the killing. “Preliminary evidence suggests the victim was stabbed and had his throat slit. He attempted to flee but succumbed to excessive blood loss,” he said.
He added that the car had originated from Kushtia and that one passenger has been detained for questioning. Multiple police teams are currently working to determine the motive behind the murder and identify the attackers.
