Former Palestinian footballer Suleiman Obeid, known as "The Pele of Palestine," was killed on Wednesday August 6 by Israeli forces in Gaza City while waiting for humanitarian aid, medical sources report.
The 41-year-old, a former national team captain, is among hundreds of Palestinian athletes and youth victims since the war on Gaza began over 22 months ago.
Obeid started his career at Shabab Al-Shati and played for Al-Amari Club in the occupied West Bank. He scored internationally against Yemen in 2010 and represented Palestine as the team’s captain in major regional and World Cup qualifiers.
