Sumaiya Zafrin, wife of Army Major Sadekul Haque, has been detained by the Detective Branch (DB) for allegedly organizing guerrilla training for suspended factions of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League. Authorities say she facilitated a covert gathering on July 8 at KB Convention Hall, where approximately 400 cadres reportedly underwent combat-style training.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman confirmed the detention on Wednesday night, August 6. While Zafrin was initially identified as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, police headquarters later clarified that no officer by that name exists within the force.
Earlier, on July 12, AL leader Shamima Nasrin Shampa (Gopalganj), Jubo League leader Sohel Rana (Barguna), and Mahfuzur Rahman Riton (Meherpur) were arrested for their involvement in planning the session. Major Sadekul Haque is currently in army custody.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has confirmed the preliminary allegations and announced that a military court of inquiry has been established to conduct an impartial investigation.
