According to eyewitnesses and police sources, around 3 p.m. students from BUET and several other engineering universities brought out a procession and blocked the Shahbagh intersection. During that time, they chanted slogans demanding that their demands be met. Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Monsur said that the blockade at Shahbagh intersection caused severe traffic congestion on the surrounding roads.

Among the students’ other demands are that no diploma engineers should be promoted to the 9th grade, and that graduate engineers must be given priority for entry into 10th-grade jobs.

Abrar Faiyaz, a BUET student participating in the blockade, told Prothom Alo that they had been continuing their movement with a three-point demand. However, last night in Rangpur, a graduate engineer was detained and given various threats. Although a case was filed with the police station over the incident, the perpetrators have not been arrested.

He said they will continue their movement until their three-point demands are met and those who threatened the graduate engineer are arrested.
