India stops buying oil from Russia after Trump’s warning.
India had been one of the biggest buyers of Russian oil since the war in Ukraine began. They took advantage of discounted prices when other countries stopped buying.
But now, things have changed. Former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on countries that keep buying Russian oil.
Because of this, India’s state oil companies like IOC, HPCL, BPCL, and MRPL have paused their purchases of Russian crude oil.
The discounts on Russian oil have also become smaller, and there are growing worries about U.S. sanctions.
Russia supplied about 35–40% of India’s oil needs. This halt means India will look for oil from the Middle East and Africa instead.
India now has to balance keeping oil prices low for its people and avoiding trouble with the U.S.
What do you think? Was India’s decision smart?
