On July 19, during the National Assembly speech at Sohrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, Jamaat-e-Islami's Amir, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, fell twice from the stage while giving his address. He later received initial medical treatment at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi and returned home that night.

After undergoing various physical tests, a coronary angiography was conducted on him at a private hospital in the capital today, Wednesday, July 30. Following the procedure, doctors advised that he undergo heart bypass surgery, which is scheduled for next week. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General, Professor Mia Golam Parwar, is expected to brief the media tomorrow, Thursday, July 31, with further details on the matter.

Although the personal medical board recommended multiple times that he undergo surgery abroad, particularly in Singapore, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman firmly declined and expressed confidence in the country's healthcare system. He insisted on having the operation in Bangladesh, trusting the local medical facilities.

It is reported that on the day of the incident, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman first fell at 5:22 PM but continued his speech after getting up. However, he fell again and continued speaking while sitting. Despite the doctors advising him to stop, he ignored their warnings, creating a chaotic situation. Central leaders attempted to calm the situation, and Dr. Shafiqur Rahman continued his address, sitting for almost 10 minutes.
