As of July 29, 2025, the Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least 60,034 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 146,000 injured since the onset of the conflict on October 7, 2023. The majority of these casualties are civilians, with thousands more unaccounted for beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed monitor, has confirmed that Gaza is experiencing a "worst-case scenario famine," with widespread starvation, acute malnutrition, and rising hunger-related deaths. Despite worsening conditions over the past two years—exacerbated by Israeli blockades and the destruction from the ongoing conflict—there has been no formal declaration of famine.

Humanitarian agencies, including Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Food Programme, have condemned ineffective aid methods like airdrops and demand immediate, large-scale aid delivery through land crossings. The United Nations has called for a "massive and urgent" increase in humanitarian assistance to prevent further loss of life
