Mahia Tasnim Laid to Rest in Meherpur After Succumbing to Injuries in Uttara Plane Crash.

Meherpur–Chuadanga, Friday —
In the presence of thousands of mourners, Mahia Tasnim, a 15-year-old student of Milestone School and College, was laid to eternal rest this morning in Joypur village, Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur, after succumbing to her injuries sustained in the tragic Uttara Diabari plane crash.
Mahia was critically injured when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into the campus of her school, Milestone School and College, on July 21, 2025. She suffered over 50% burns, including damage to her airway, and had been undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Despite intensive care, she passed away on Thursday, July 24, at 4:30 PM.
Her death marks a heartbreaking escalation in the disaster, as the official death toll has now risen to 34.
A janaza (funeral prayer) was held at 8:00 AM today, Friday, July 25, at her maternal grandfather’s village in Joypur, Meherpur, followed by burial in the family graveyard. Locals, classmates, relatives, and well-wishers gathered in overwhelming numbers to bid her a final farewell.
Mahia was the daughter of late Engineer Mahmud from Kurulgachi village, Darshana thana, Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga, and the granddaughter of Nazrul Islam of Joypur village, Meherpur. As per the wishes of her family, she was buried in her nana’r bari (maternal grandfather’s village).
