On July 21, 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training jet crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka's Uttara area shortly after takeoff from Kurmitola Airbase. The crash resulted in the deaths of at least 27 individuals, including 25 children, a teacher, and the pilot. Over 171 others were injured, many with severe burns, and several remain in critical condition .

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and devastation as the aircraft struck a classroom building during school hours, igniting a massive fire. Rescue operations were hindered by the intensity of the blaze, and many victims were transported to hospitals using available vehicles due to limited ambulance access .

The Bangladesh government has declared a national day of mourning, with flags at half-mast and special prayers held nationwide. A high-level investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the crash, which is suspected to be a mechanical failure .
