Tarique Rahman Calls for Responsible Politics, Urges Youth to Safeguard Democracy

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the people of Bangladesh expect quality and responsible politics from all political parties, not division and vengeance. He emphasized that the BNP is committed to pursuing politics aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.

Speaking virtually on Sunday (August 3) at a rally organized by Jatiyatabadi Chatradol to mark the anniversary of the “July Uprising,” Tarique Rahman praised the sacrifices of student activists in the anti-fascist movement over the past decade and a half. “Thousands of Chatradol leaders and activists have been injured or killed in the struggle against fascism. Even the brutal repression of the fugitive dictator could not silence them,” he said, calling on students to ensure that fascism never returns to the country.

The BNP leader alleged that the fascist regime destroyed the education system in an attempt to turn Bangladesh into a subservient state. He said campuses were made unsafe for students and turned into “safe havens for terrorists” and even “concentration camps.”

Addressing Chatradol members, Tarique Rahman stressed the need for a qualitative change in student politics in a post-dictatorship Bangladesh. He urged student organizations to remain aware of both national issues and campus-specific challenges while preparing themselves to become capable leaders.

Outlining BNP’s vision, he said the party aims to take advantage of the global e-commerce boom by promoting Bangladeshi products online. He added that the BNP wants to create a large pool of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs to strengthen the economy.

Tarique Rahman also highlighted the issue of disenfranchised voters, claiming that despite 40 million new voters being registered, the fascist regime had deprived them of their right to vote. He stressed that the upcoming national election presents a major opportunity to restore the people’s lost voting rights.
