After Faruk Ahmed, Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, Aminul Islam Bulbul, took charge as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Having resigned from his job at the ICC to assume the role, Bulbul has now completed almost two months in office. He said that although the responsibility comes with challenges, he is enjoying it. He added that he has no regrets about leaving behind a secure life in Australia and his ICC career. Rather, he feels proud that as BCB President, he is able to give something back to the country. At the same time, he made it clear that he will not continue as BCB President after this term, nor will he contest in any election.
Upon taking office, BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul announced the “Triple Century Project.” He explained the reasons behind launching the initiative, saying it was mainly to ensure that no decision of his is influenced by what he sees on Facebook or elsewhere, and that the decision was made for the betterment of cricket in the country. “This is badly needed for Bangladesh cricket,” he said.
Former president Faruk Ahmed had complained that he did not receive full cooperation from other board directors. However, Bulbul has no such grievances. In his words: “I am very fortunate that the team we have is playing for each other. I can see that. If I make a mistake, someone else fixes it; if someone else makes a mistake, we fix it. At this moment, I can see that because the team is working well together, we are moving forward.”
