The High Court has dismissed four extortion cases against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, originally filed by the army-backed caretaker government 17 years ago. The ruling came from Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain on Wednesday. Tarique's lawyer, AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, who also leads the Supreme Court Bar Association, argued that the proceedings in these cases have been declared void. He noted that Tarique's name does not appear in the First Information Reports (FIRs) related to the cases, yet he has faced repeated remand and torture. Khokon emphasized that the physical marks of this inhumane treatment are still evident on Tarique’s body.
